From ourcommodore
Welcome to the Cruising Association of Ireland’s website.
2026 brings new opportunities and challenges as we embark on another sailing season. Our website and WhatsApp forums are a great way to keep informed and in touch with all that’s going on and again this year you are invited to contribute stories, comments, photographs and ideas (editor@cruising.ie).
For new members the archive is a good place to explore previous years exploits like last year’s Summer Cruise to Northern Ireland and our now famous Three Bridges Rally in September. (https://cruising.ie/news/). If you’re not a member then consider joining, or just subscribe to our free newsletter; it’s a wealth of information about all we do (cruising.ie/join-us).
The CAI is for all cruising sailors, especially those wishing to learn and participate with fellow members and to develop their skills. We don’t have joining criteria or experience requirements, rather we are keen to have new novice members join. Please consider participating in a cruise, there are events for all skill levels. Cruise leaders, and other members are always happy to discuss if you wish to join in (Events in 2026).
Last year we had a record number of new members join, and speaking with many they were very pleased with the welcome, the generosity of existing members sharing knowledge and receiving their free burgee in the post on joining! We are definitely about camaraderie, sharing advice and support, and encouraging cruising sailing. There are also crewing opportunities.
We are fortunate again to have such an active and engaged committee. Throughout the year you will see various members supporting and leading our cruises, events and representing the CAI in all sorts of places. Our newsletter will keep you up to date.
Safe sailing, fair winds and sunny days…

The 2026 Sailing Season
This is the way the season looks in March 2026. You'll find current information about each event in the Events menu.
We meet in a Zoom room every Wednesday, and we have a series of talks in progress.
Our first physical gathering of the year is in March for the Annual General Meeting.
We’ll kick off the sailing season with a trip to Greystones for an overnight rally and dinner ashore.
In May we’ll collaborate with Malahide and Howth Yacht Clubs for the traditional Malahide Muster.
In June we’re planning a trip to the South coast of Ireland, beyond Mizen Head into Bantry Bay. It’s a good opportunity for novices to make a significant passage in company.
The August Bank Holiday provides an opportunity for a short event, and we’re encouraging a casual meetup over the long weekend.
In September we’ll spend a night in the river Liffey on the Three Bridges Rally.
Cruising in company with the bonus of safety in numbers and friendships to last a lifetime.
