You can find the current position of the Costa Concordia by going to http://www.shipfinder.com/main/index
and enter the name of the vessel & press enter.
Click on the name Costa Concordia (Left hand side of the screen) & the ship is highlighted on the rocks. Double Click on the vessel & you will get details.
To find the historic track of a vessel go to http://shipfinder.co/ and zoom in on the area. Hit playback (top right hand side of page) and enter a start date and time and hit play. For some reason, perhaps the data has been withdrawn, it does not work in the area where the Costa Concordia was between 8pm & 9:30 pm on Friday 13th January. On zooming in closer to the area and running the play back for that time I got a message saying "try another time as there is a gap in the data". I also tried http://marinetraffic.com/ and put in the vessels MMIS number and a time stamp but got nothing. This site has worked for me in the past. However I went to the GALLERY tab on the site & got the picture shown at the start of the blog

Hi Brendan,
Very interesting info. I tried the sites you mentioned above, and got the same "missing data" error message. I wonder if they've taken down the data pending an investigation/outcome.
There is a video of the AIS track online on Youtube. If this link doesnt work, search for "Concordia AIS Replay" should get it.
