Dear Cruising Member

If you did not manage to get to the NYC on Saturday last it was a great evening and good value at 20 euro per head. About 15 boats turned up on the pontoons and almost 90 diners enjoyed a first class meal in the clubhouse. It was also our AGM which we kept mercifully short but nevertheless there was business to be done.

Note: The information below is not a forecast - just an interpretation (in consultation with John Leahy), a summary of forecasts freely available on the web (as of Thursday evening). Please do you own checking on the forecast, and let us know if we've read it wrong below !  

• It looks like being predominately fine weather over the weekend, though "a bit windy" on Sunday.
• "Lots of sunshine expected" on Saturday, with the exception of some rain on Sunday afternoon mostly dry over the weekend.
• Winds on Saturday W 10-12 knots, although potentially up to 30 knots SW on Sunday... if it does blow, at least it's an off-wind ride for the howth & malahide boats, but something to watch for anyone going south on Sunday.

There was a public meeting in the Beach house in Greystones on 14th March, with SISPAR (the developer) and councillors in attendance. I went along as an interested boat owner (Greystones is much closer to me than Dun Laoighaire).

"Safety at Sea : Lessons from a lifetime on lifeboats" -Kevin Rahill (RNLI) in conversation with Bryan Dobson

Venue:  Poolbeg Yacht Club on 25th January ,20:00 hrs,  entry only €5

Kevin Rahill, is RNLI Divisional Sea Safety Manager for Ireland, and also a serving member of the 
Wicklow RNLI Lifeboat crew. His sailing experience extends over 35 years including trans-Atlantic 
sailing and he is an Ocean Yachtmaster. 
Bryan Dobson, RTÉ broadcaster, les Glénans instructor and Round Ireland yacht racer, was 
instructing in Baltimore this summer when the maxi yacht Rambler 100 lost its keel at the Fastnet 
Rock. Subsequently, he presented the RTÉ documentary, Mayday at the Fastnet Rock, which 
gave a graphic insight into the rescue of the twenty one crew of the upturned yacht. 
As members of les Glénans, we know the absolute priority that is given to maintaining the highest 
standards of safety in our sail-training. We are fortunate to have the opportunity to draw on Kevin 
Rahill’s personal experience of the search and rescue techniques of the RNLI in Irish waters to 
refresh our knowledge of safety procedures and equipment.

Welcome to our new blog section !

Strangford Lough turned out to be a great cruise !... We had a mix of boats from Malahide YC, Howth YC, Poolbeg, Royal Irish Yacht Club and the National Yacht Club in Dun Laoighaire.
I havn't had time to write up some text, so I've uploaded some photos to speak for themselves.... 
Hope the photos show what a great cruise it was, we were very lucky with the weather and everyone had a ball.

ps. Look out for the Liffey Cruise..... date of Bridge Lifts now confirmed for Sat 24th & Sun 25th September !!!.
